User Interface Architect/Interaction Designer,
Independence Air
Strategize design and develop airline ecommerce site.
December 2003 to May 2004, Washington DC. - Contract
About Company: Independence Air, based in Dulles Virginia, was the eastern short haul carrier for United Air and Delta Airlines. After 2001, airlines throughout the country were struggling financially, and passed on their financial hardships to partners, such
as Independence Air. In 2003 Independence Air decided to split its
alliances with United and Delta and become a low cost carrier unto
itself.
My Assignment: I was contracted to develop a competitive analysis
of best of breed online airline offerings, and rapidly create a strategy
for Independence Air to incorporate these best practices into their ecommerce site.
Specific areas I focused on were the booking mechanisms, personalization and online management of itineraries. Independence Air's strategy was to utilize online booking and marketing to the maximum possible extent, thus minimizing costs for acquiring and managing passengers.
The Independence Air online presence and web site was designed and
developed under budget and ahead of schedule, in six months, with all
major features included in this site.
